Cold weather on Crete comes with its own rewards: storms rolling waves into Chania’s harbor, big enough to splash unsuspecting visitors walking the promenade, and kitchens turning out hearty stews cooked slowly in clay pots. We caught some of that mood on a rainy road-trip into the mountains south of the city, ending up at a rustic restaurant near the Therisos Gorge, one of the few gorges on Crete you can actually drive through. Sometimes the bad weather makes the day.
