Museums we actually enjoyed, which is a higher bar than it sounds. We meet the presidents at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, get an Egyptian history lesson in Luxor and give Heraklion’s Archaeological Museum the attention most Knossos visitors skip. In Valencia there is the billionaire’s collection at the Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero and the digital art of Bombas Gens, and in Darmstadt, century-old wildlife dioramas that still work their magic.
