What to expect when visiting the Akropolis in Athens

The lines at the Acropolis were long enough on the day we visited that we genuinely debated turning around and skipping the whole thing, standing in the heat with a crowd that showed no signs of moving quickly. We stuck with it anyway, and once inside the scale of the site made the wait feel almost beside the point. Some landmarks earn the frustration of getting in simply by being worth it once you finally do.
