Every city we settle into for a while eventually produces one place that becomes ours, and in Athens it was a small tavern we kept returning to without ever really deciding to. Nothing about it was designed to impress, just good food arriving without fuss and an owner who started remembering our order by the second visit. That particular feeling, walking in and being greeted rather than seated, is one of the quiet rewards of staying somewhere longer than a weekend.
