Having watched over a hundred mascletàs in our years in Valencia, we didn’t expect to see one anywhere else, let alone in Germany. But the Zena Trophy festival in Kalkar included a night mascletà billed as the loudest fireworks display ever set off in the country, and it delivered: pure raw power, overwhelming in the best way, building to a final cloud that hung heavy in the air long after the last shot. Genuinely impressive, even for us.
