Largest (Tallest?) Nativity Scene in the World in Alicante – And the Ma Jordana Belén 2020

Alicante is now home to the tallest nativity scene in the world, though tallest doesn’t mean biggest cast: this one has exactly three figures, Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus, all built at a dramatically larger-than-life scale. We visited twice, once in daylight and once after dark, to see how differently it reads in each light. In a year when Christmas felt smaller and lonelier than usual, this oversized, slightly surreal scene was a strange but welcome bit of spectacle.
