Escif’s Meditadora, the giant meditating woman built for Fallas 2020, has become one of our favorite Fallas figures for reasons that have nothing to do with a typical Falla: the day after the 2020 festival was cancelled, the artists gave her a face mask, and she’s carried that quiet, steady symbolism ever since. Fallas 2021 got postponed too, pushing her return even further out, but here she is again, going up for a second time. Watching her plantà now feels like watching the pandemic itself measured out in stages.
