A lot of people who live in Springfield have no idea this place even exists – the Hartman Rock Garden, tucked into an unassuming neighborhood on the south side of town. It is open dusk to dawn and completely free, a small yard packed with miniature buildings, castles, and scenes all built from pebbles by one very dedicated person. We first visited years ago with our niece, who was four at the time, and it turns out this kind of place works just as well for kids as it does for adults.
