Plane Tree in Canterbury
The player loads from YouTube only when you press play.
We took the bus over from Whitstable for a day exploring Canterbury, and somewhere between the cathedral and the old streets we kept getting distracted by the plane trees, their trunks mottled in that distinctive patchwork of gray, green, and cream bark that peels away in irregular plates. A few of them had grown wide enough to dominate whole corners of the city, branches spreading further than seemed physically reasonable. We ended up filming the trees almost as much as the actual historic buildings around them.
