We almost never spend money like this, but twenty years together felt like the right occasion to book Pangkor Laut, a private resort island a few hours north of Kuala Lumpur. Check-in started on the mainland, where the resort has its own terminal for dropping off luggage before a private boat carries you across to the island itself. The whole process felt like stepping into a different kind of trip than the ones we’re used to.
