My first hours in Bangkok, after a comfortable Thai Airways flight from Brussels, were mostly about getting oriented: a train into the city, a hotel room that happened to overlook one of the khlongs, and my first rides on the river bus that cuts through the city’s canals. I was mainly there for a conference, so free time was limited, but I made sure to squeeze in enough wandering to get a first real feel for the city before the schedule took over.
