The moment we stepped into Hotel TwentySeven in Amsterdam, a doorman appeared to take our coats and suitcases before we had even said a word – our first sign of what kind of night this was going to be. We do not usually splurge on hotels this exclusive, but our suite, with its view over Rokin Square, made a strong case for occasionally making an exception. Within about fifteen minutes we had run out of ways to say ‘luxurious’ and just started pointing at things instead.
