Neither of us had really spent time in Amsterdam before this trip, so we started with the obvious move – setting off from Centraal Station and just wandering wherever the streets looked interesting. It happened to be a gray, cold December day, the kind that usually kills a city’s charm, but Amsterdam somehow still looked good, canals and all. This was our first real impression of the place, formed the old-fashioned way, on foot with no real plan.
