Right after catching part of Loy Krathong in Bangkok, I rushed to the airport the next day to make it to Chiang Mai in time for the final night of Yi Peng, the sister festival known for its floating sky lanterns. Alongside the usual krathongs set adrift on the water, thousands of paper lanterns went up into the night sky at once, lit from below and drifting off until they disappeared. It’s one of the most striking things I’ve filmed in Thailand.
