We gave ourselves two weeks on Naxos during the off season, when the beaches empty out and most of the tourist restaurants along the port shut their doors until spring. The weather did not cooperate as much as we hoped, gray skies more often than not, but the island’s quieter side more than made up for it. Empty tavernas, fewer crowds at the ruins, and long walks where we barely passed another traveler the whole way.
