In the hills above Naxos town lie unfinished marble giants, abandoned mid carving thousands of years ago and never moved since, lying flat where the sculptors apparently just walked away. Nobody knows for certain why the work stopped, a crack in the stone, a change of plans, a commission that fell through. We stood over one of them, tracing the outline of a face that never got finished, feeling small next to something that old and that unresolved.
