Beaufort makes for an easy escape from Savannah, close enough for a single day trip but different enough in feel that it never seems like more of the same. Its historic streets have their own slower rhythm, and Hunting Island nearby trades manicured squares for a genuinely wild stretch of coastline, driftwood and marsh grass instead of antebellum architecture. We spent the day moving between the two, small town charm in the morning and untouched shoreline by the afternoon.
