Just an unripe Cherimoya aka Chirimoya

This particular cherimoya was still unripe when we filmed it, skin green and slightly scaled, nothing like the softer, custard textured fruit it eventually becomes once it fully ripens. The fruit reportedly was Mark Twain’s favorite, and it is easy to understand the appeal once you have tasted a properly ripe one, sweet and genuinely reminiscent of custard rather than anything typically associated with fresh fruit. We first came across it years ago and have kept an eye out for it ever since.
