Thanksgiving & Christmas Lights in Hudson, Ohio

In November, we spent two weeks in Hudson, Ohio, for our very first experience with the website Trusted Housesitting. For us, housesitting is a brand new way to travel — basically, you’re caring for someone’s home and animal(s) while they’re away. As long time readers might know, we used to travel with our French Bulldog, Chucky, and we really miss having a companion. Our nomadic lifestyle makes having a dog problematic, so watching someone else’s dog feels like a great solution!

Our very first housesit brought us to the small town of Hudson, south of Cleveland. During our time there, we explored the town, sampled some of the restaurants, saw Hudson’s award-winning library, and even got enjoy some nature at the nearby Brandywine Falls.

We also celebrated our favorite American holiday, Thanksgiving, when Mike’s mom made the drive from Springfield to spend the day with us. We don’t often get the chance to enjoy this day with family, and we had a blast preparing (and consuming) a miniature feast for three.

Literally the day after Thanksgiving, the denizens of Hudson got busy putting their Christmas trees and light displays up. No time to waste! But our time in town was soon coming to an end, so we took a walk to the center to check out the decorations. We’re not really Christmas guys, but decided to give ourselves an overdose of holiday spirit by eating at Hudson’s Restaurant. For the month of December, this place transforms into “Blitzen’s“, which is just insane. Every inch of the interior is splashed out in Christmas colors, and even two Grinches like us couldn’t help but be impressed.

We had a great time in Hudson. It was amazing to have a real “home” to return to, and a cute dog waiting to greet us at the door. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and we can definitely recommend looking into TrustedHousesitters. It’s a concept that makes tons of sense, for both pet owners who want to travel and avoid the kennel, as well as for people who like to travel slow and enjoy having a dog around. We’ll definitely be doing this again… and soon!

Valencia’s New Plaza del Ayuntamiento

The timing to turn the Plaza del Ayuntamiento into a pedestrian zone couldn’t have been better. They couldn’t possibly have predicted the Covid pandemic while planning, but these days we need more space to roam.
