Location was perfect - close to ferry terminal. Nice little restaurant close by recommended by staff although you need cash. There are ATMs also close by but they didn't work well for our cards - we were however able to get a little money out. The staff were wonderful however - and organised the pick up for our bus transportation the next day as the bus station was quite a way from the town.

Small town.
Small town. No Grab service in Chau Doc. went to Tra Su cajuput forest by Taxi, in a remote area and hard to get transportation to the forest, taxi driver waited ( I didn't ask him to wait) he wanted to make more money with the return to town trip. Basically it does not have the necessary public infrastructure to support tourists.

Chau Doc is visited mainly by tourists crossing the border between Vietnam and Cambodia. Other than a few hotel, there's not a lot to see. Although it's a nice little town with nice street food.

There is so many things to see in An Giang around Chau Doc: Sam mountain, Cam mountain, Tapa fields, lake at Tri Ton, temples and pagodas, Bung Binh Tien but my favorite was Tra Su Melaleuca forest. And of course the city of Chau Doc including some beautiful Muslim temples and a small floating market as well.

Central downtown Chau Doc is really hard to get around if you enjoy walking. Can Tho had good walking promenades and the town was OK for an avid pedestrian. Not so for Chau Doc which is overrun by motorbikes with limited walking areas, aside from the area near the river. Smelt more polluted than other places I've visited too as the streets in the downtown area are quite narrow and there's so many bikers. We stayed two nights. I'd recommend staying for one and heading straight out to the bird sanctuary and Sam Mountains which were really lovely and interesting - but lower your expectations of the town itself.

The river is great - life goes on there and watching the boats is interesting and calming, the temple end however is absolute chaos as 'pilgrims' are on a mission to spend what appears to be a very small amount of time to do their business. Cooked pigs seem to be the big bucks donation. Not exactly the equivalent of say a European Cathedral which offers peace and sanctuary, this is congested high energy and crassly commercial. As an experience it is worth it, but of course, not all experiences are that pleasant.....

Visiting Chau Doc?
Visiting Chau Doc? A walk through the markets and along the river bank is essential. Take a tour on the back of a motor bike to visit the Tra Su bird sanctuary, riding along the edge of the canal, past rice paddies, crossing the canal over old narrow bridges and paths with overhanging trees - sites you won't experience in a car or bus. Stop and tour the Cavern Pagoda - this Pagoda is amazing with great views back across the countryside. Take a ride to the top of Sam Mountain. You'll need a couple of nights to see the best of Chau Doc.
A budget hotel (probably 2 star but desribed as a hostel?) on the edge of town and just a 7/8 minute taxi ride to the centre (30 to 40 Dong). The room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the bathroom entirely acceptable. The air con was efficient and there was also a ceiling fan.The young man on the front desk spoke good english and was super helpful, organising taxis, restaurants and my bus/ferry to Phu Quoc. He was even in touch by phone with me and the bus conductor to help resolve minor issues on the journey!
We stayed at the Chau Doc Homestay for 3 nights. We arrived at 3am unexpectedly and she still organized a taxi to come pick us up. We could easily rent a motor bike for 2 days. On one day, the host took the time to show us around a farming village and their farming fields. She explained us how they sow the seeds, pluck them and bring them to the market. We also cooked dinner with the family. Overall, it was a great and homely stay. We would recommend this place for anyone staying in Chau Doc.
Great location. The hotel is right on the river (great views!) and on the edge of the town center. This means it is much quieter than the hotels in the town center (where we initially stayed). The views from pool and restaurant were fantastic and the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve ever had. However, the highlight of our stay was the front desk staff: Tham (morning) and Tu Khuc (afternoon), who were born so helpful and friendly.
Murray guest house is a charming little hotel in Chau Doc. Rooms are quite big with large windows. The rooftop is really cute, with a lot of plants and a nice view over the town. The tenant was amazing, she was so helpful and gave me a lot of advice. I'll definitely stay there again if I come back to Chau Doc.
The place is clean and beautiful and central in Chau Doc. Vi the owner speaks English very well , she gave me good advice for restaurants. I booked a tour trip with her to the cave Pagoda and Tra Su which was exceptional. She took the time on the way to explain to me the local culture.
The room was comfortable. There are a number of options to have local food nearby. The receptionist was nice and helpful. You can rent motorbikes for 150K per day.
But attention: as the property is located inside the border area, non-Vietnamese are not allowed to stay.
The only good thing is Location, 3 minutes walking from Chau Doc Speed Boat (Hotel Victoria). THe price of the room is really expensive for what it is, it is a Billiard Games House, with some rooms on the side. Lot of noise, at night but it stops at 11pm.
The hotel is stunning, a gem in Vietnam to disconnect and enjoy the country. The staff has been helpful from the moment we made the reservation to the checkout. The service is truly outstanding, ensuring all you needs are answered.
I was only one night in this hotel and for one night everything was comfortable. I arrived late in the evening and the staff waited for me, they also gave me water and took care of my motorcycle, thank them very much for that.
Staff were excellent and very caring. Food was well made and tasty. Setting was spectacular and a peaceful respite from the intensity of Vietnam. Management obviously cares about customers and staff.
I like its location, it's close to the city center and easy to access The Lady Temple. It's not the greatest place but suitable for those who want to discover Chau Doc with low budget.
The hotel was very dirty and also the room was felt of dirt. I have to ask the hotel personnel to come in to clean and sweep the room. The hallway carpet was dirty and bad smell.
Thank you so much. We had a wonderful stay at your hotel. It is very clean and well organized and everyone in the reception area and pharmacy are so kind and helpful.
Easy to find from the Phnom P. ferry. Only stayed one night then bus to Ha Tien. Lady who runs the hotel helped arrange onward ticket. Would recommend.
